THE CURATOR'S LAST WILL

An interactive investigation at the Blackwood Archives

Scene 4: The Archive Vault

You descend a steep, damp spiral of hand-cut limestone steps into the estate's reinforced subterranean chamber. The temperature drops sharply. The air here is cold, crisp, and hums with the low vibration of vintage atmospheric dehumidifiers designed to preserve delicate vellum.

Rows of bolted iron cages line the stone corridor. Ahead of you, a heavy iron-barred security gate stands partially ajar, revealing a central pedestal illuminated by a solitary overhead inspection lamp.

Inspect the Vault Chamber

Click any item below to inspect it:

Examine the Central Pedestal Case

Resting on a velvet pillow inside an unlocked acrylic case is a lavishly bound tome embossed with glided lettering: The Cartography of Shadows.

It looks remarkably accessible-almost too accessible. A closer look at the binding reveals modern machine stitching along the spine.

Warning: Remember entry #1692-C from the Library catalog ledger: A decoy copy was left in plain sight for the auction house to catalog.

Inspect the Dehumidifier Control Console

A heavy copper panel monitors climate levels for the underground safes. Stenciled in white paint across the gauge cluster is a maintenance notation:

"Primary climate line routes directly to the Curator's Study on the West Wing. Master storage safe is hardwired to the second-floor library catalog."

Check the Vault Log Clipboard by the Door

A clipboard hangs from a rusty hook. Vance's final handwritten log entry is visible:

"The vultures will scour these vaults first. Let them take the glided showpiece on the plinth. The authentic folio remains secured behind the three-dial mechanical lock upstairs in my study."
